The well run Maly Hotel is located in Phonsavan town in the Xieng khouang province Laos. It offers 24 comfortable rooms with private toilets and hot showers from solar cells and electric-water heater. There is a cosy restaurant downstairs serving tasty, traditional dishes from Laos, as well as breakfast. Sivone, the owners wife, is an excellent chef and even teaches guests how to cook typical food from Laos. Sousath, the owner, speaks good English, French, German, Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai and Lao and can arrange tours to the Plain of Jars, indigenous villages, the Tham Piu Cave, the old capital of Xiengkhouang, tours along the Hochiminh trail and much more.

About Phonsavan:

The capital of Xieng Khouang is Phonsavan. Situated at an altitude of 1,200m is an excellent climate. December and January can be chilly so bring a light jacket or fleece for cool evenings and mornings.

Xieng Khouang province is situated in the north of Laos, a province of green montains and karst limestone. Much of the province was heavily bombed during the Vietnam war and old war scrap is used in building houses throughout the province. The Plain of jars is the biggest attraction of the province - situated near Phonsavan are several grassy areas on which stand stone jars, about 1 to 2.5m high.
