This cheap and cheerful family-run guesthouse has an enticing location down on the Mekong riverfront. There are just six rooms here, including three twins and three doubles, so it is a must to book well ahead.

This property is not a classic compared with some of the others along the riverfront, but the rooms are relatively large and comfortable. All include a fan and a hot-water shower in the attached bathroom. Unfortunately, the friendly family that run the show here have been savvy enough to keep the best room for themselves, upstairs at the front, but the remaining six are good value for money. Just across the road, the family also operate a restaurant with a view of the Mekong, which is a fine place for a light lunch or cheap dinner. Not in the mood for a meal? The drinks menu includes fruit shakes, coffees with a kick and BeerLao.
