- Satri House Satri House
Built at the turn of the last century as a
royal villa, Satri House's seven rooms are beautifully furnished
with Southeast Asian antiques. Hidden away amid tropical gardens,
this is the perfect romantic retreat and has a small cruciform
swimming pool to while away a day.
Walking into the house is like walking into a gallery or antique
shop and the theme continues into the rooms. Five of the rooms are
set in the old house, including two suites upstairs with private
access. Out in the garden are two more rooms with elegant
Balinese-style bathrooms with the most outlandishly large bathtubs
you are likely to see in Laos. All rooms feature elegant Lao
textiles, old Buddhas and fine furnishings, giving it the feel of a
homestay in an ambassador's residence. The lush garden includes a
small restaurant for breakfast and other meals are available. Plans
are afoot to add more rooms during 2006, but this shouldn't affect
the harmony of the original house.

Author Tip
Inspired by all the beautiful antiques that surround you in Satri
House? Head down to Th Sakkarin to browse the night market. You
might not find such treasures, but this atmospheric street bazaar
includes inexpensive textiles, lamps, saa paper products, cheap
clothing and a few old pieces on offer from local minority tribes in
the area.
Curious Fact
Satri House was originally the royal residence of Prince
Souphanouvong, the so-called Red Prince who fought with the
communists during the long civil war.
