Euangpa Hotel
IVilla Euangpa,
also confusingly known as Villa Mai Dou, is the closest thing to
staying in a temple in Luang Prabang without donning the robes. Set
next to a historic wat, the architecture is inspired by the
surroundings and it is a real hideaway in a quiet part of town.
The villa was quite literally opening its doors during our visit,
and only seven rooms were ready in the larger of the two buildings.
The second building containing eight rooms should be welcoming
guests from January. The rooms are large, lined with velvety woods
and include all the obvious comforts such as air-con, satellite TV,
minibar and private veranda. That said, they feel a little
ambitiously priced for what they are, although the zen calm here may
be worth the extra investment. The approach is down a small alley,
so is not the easiest place to navigate back to by night, but with
no security concerns in Luang Prabang that shouldn't be a deterrent

Author Tip
The oldest temple in Luang Prabang, Wat Wisunalat was originally
built in 1513, but has been rebuilt several times since. Also known
as Wat Visoun, locals call it the watermelon stupa, thanks to the
melon-shaped structure at the front of the compound. The style of
the main temple is more Khmer than Lao, but inside are many
impressive Lao Buddhas in the 'calling for rain' position.
