Villa Manoly  

Tucked away down a quiet lane, the Manoly is a large French-era villa set amid a lush landscaped garden. The house is nicely finished with hardwood floors, high ceilings and tasteful furnishings, plus there is a newer wing overlooking the small swimming pool.

The Manoly is a real oasis and deservedly popular with regular visitors to the Lao capital. The attractive garden (complete with traditional ox cart) and the pool make it excellent value among the homestyle villas around town. The 20 rooms include air-con, TV and hot water, and Lao textiles feature heavily as bed linen and decoration. The old lobby is timeless and contains the owner's antique collection; you could be forgiven for thinking you'd stepped back into the Laos of the 1950s as depicted in Norman Lewis' masterpiece, A Dragon Apparent. Upstairs is a breezy terrace for relaxing and the views across to Wat Phia Wat are more rural than urban. Throw in a warm welcome and friendly service and it all adds up to one of the best mid-range places in town.
